Marcon invest in 10 life-saving defibrillators

LIFE-SAVING defibrillators have been installed by Marcon fit-out.  The equipment has been installed at their offices and manufacturing facilities throughout the UK and Ireland.  They have been distributed to all Site Managers who have received the necessary training on operating the equipment.

More than 30,000 people suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year in the UK. Unfortunately only 1 in 10 people survive. For every minute that goes by where a victim of Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not receive treatment, their chance of survival decreases by 10%. Providing effective defibrillation within the first 3 to 5 minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest can increase survival rates from 6% to 74%.

Mark O’Connor, Director at Marcon commented: “When you hear the statistics that less than 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, it’s extremely concerning.  Although defibrillators are not currently a legal requirement in the workplace, continued safety investment demonstrates our commitment to continue achieving best in class safety performance to meet our moral obligation of ensuring our colleagues, customers and local communities remain safe”.

Marcon has also committed to ensuring where possible, its defibrillators are registered on The Circuit – the national defibrillator network.  This connects defibrillators to NHS ambulance services across the UK.  So that in those crucial moments after a cardiac arrest they can be accessed quickly to help save lives.

Site Manager at Marcon, Michael Moore continued. “I’m delighted these life saving devices have been installed across our UK and Ireland sites.  We are investing heavily in the wellbeing of site employees, supply chain contractors and Client teams. If someone on site went into cardiac arrest, the presence of a defibrillator for those first crucial minutes can make the difference between life and death. As a Site Manager I really appreciate that Marcon have made such a worthwhile investment.  Thank you to our Directors and our SHEQ Manager for organising”
