Marcon Deliver New 20th & 21st Century History Gallery at Collins Barracks for National Museum of Ireland
Marcon has successfully completed the delivery of the new permanent 20th & 21st Century History Gallery, Changing Ireland’ at Collins Barracks, Dublin, for the National Museum of Ireland. Located within a building of major historical significance, the project was carried out in full compliance with strict heritage regulations to ensure the preservation of the site’s integrity.
The newly completed exhibition offers visitors an immersive journey through Ireland’s 20th and 21st-century history, covering the period from 1900 to 2020. It explores pivotal events, cultural developments, and societal changes that shaped the nation. The gallery now showcases an extensive collection of artifacts, archival materials, multimedia features, and interactive installations. Key highlights include Ireland’s complex path to independence, the formation of the Irish Republic, and the broader social and political transformations of the century.
As part of the contract, Marcon managed the full construction and installation of the exhibition. This encompassed contractor-led design, off-site fabrication, and on-site fit-out works, including exhibition setworks, electrical and lighting systems, graphics, and the integration of interactive and digital elements. The scope also covered the coordination and installation of small power and data distribution for the exhibits, along with specialist object mounts and audiovisual components.
This major project now provides visitors with an engaging, informative, and impactful experience, reflecting the dynamic and evolving story of Ireland throughout the 20th and 21st century.
