Calanais Stone Visitor Centre Exhibition

Marcon delivered the exhibition fit-out, signage and graphics package for the transformed Calanais Visitor Centre on the Isle of Lewis. Working in one of Scotland’s most significant heritage settings, our team brought the exhibition design to life through high-quality craftsmanship, careful detailing and close coordination with the wider project team.

The scope included specialist exhibition joinery, internal and external signage, large-format graphics, display cases, object mounts, removable access panels and the integration of interactive and audio-visual elements. Every element was manufactured and installed to support a cohesive and engaging visitor experience.

Close collaboration with the client, exhibition designers, architect, main contractor, AV specialists and electrical teams ensured monitors, projectors, speakers, sensors, lighting and associated services were seamlessly incorporated into the exhibition. Careful detailing also maintained access for future maintenance without compromising the design.

Delivering the project on the Isle of Lewis required careful  supply chain management and logistics planning around ferry schedules, site access, and changing weather conditions. Joinery, graphics, signage and display components were procured and delivered in sequence to support the installation programme, while regular coordination with Urras nan Tursachan, Bright 3D, Lewis Builders and specialist contractors kept the project progressing smoothly.

Materials, finishes and fixing methods were selected to withstand the exposed coastal environment. Marcon also coordinated the fabrication and installation of the principal stone entrance sign, developing bespoke details through shop drawings, samples and staged approvals.
